Today’s priorities: storm disruption is affecting Sussex rail services, and the M25 closure previously announced for this weekend has been postponed.

Local roads – Bexhill, St Leonards and Hastings

A21 Sedlescombe Road North/Whitworth Road, Hastings: drainage and embankment work continues today. Temporary lights are scheduled overnight from 8pm to 6am during 22–23 October, then again on 26–30 October. No weekend working is planned. Allow extra time around the junction for evening collections. Official A21 notice.

Barrack Road, Bexhill – planned 26–30 October: repairs outside No. 20 are scheduled 8am–4pm daily. Once excavation starts, vehicle access between No. 20 and the cul-de-sac end will be unavailable. Pedestrian and emergency access will be maintained. Residents needing their cars should move them before work starts and agree collection points in advance. Barrack Road notice.

B2095 Hooe – planned 26 October–7 November: the rescheduled closure between the A269 and A259 junctions runs 7pm–6am with no weekend working. The diversion uses the A269, A2690 and A259. Property access is managed by the site team; there is no through route. Hooe notice.

This local list is selective. Check East Sussex Highways’ roadworks map for utility works and restrictions on your exact route, including St Leonards.

Rail: confirmed disruption today

National Rail’s 7:46am notice lists Southern London Victoria–Ore and Victoria–Eastbourne services as suspended. Peak London Bridge–Eastbourne/Littlehampton services and Thameslink Cambridge–Brighton services are also suspended. Gatwick Express is running between Victoria and Gatwick Airport only, rather than continuing to Brighton.

Fallen trees are affecting several routes, including Lewes–Brighton and the Brighton Main Line. Check your specific train and alternative connections before leaving home; the notice gives no firm restoration time. Southern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express storm notice.

South Western Railway also reports storm disruption. Its 7:51am notice says the tree at Swanwick/Fareham has been removed and trains may remain delayed or diverted during recovery. Check Southampton and Portsmouth connections individually. SWR storm notice.

Heathrow: weekend M25 closure postponed

Changed: National Highways has postponed the M25 junction 15 anticlockwise closure planned for 24–25 October because of forecast adverse weather. The replacement closure is scheduled for 8pm Saturday 31 October to 10am Sunday 1 November, between the M4 slip roads. Clockwise traffic and all M25/M4 links are due to remain open. Update any journey plans based on the old dates. Updated National Highways notice.

Roads and planned seaport rail changes

National Highways still lists A27 Southerham–Berwick closures in both directions during 19–24 October, 9pm–6am, and Offington–Grove Lodge at Worthing during 22–23 October, 9pm–6am. Weather may change works: confirm before an overnight transfer and follow signed diversions. Official roadworks schedule.

24–25 October: buses are planned between Havant and Southampton Central. 26–30 October: Southern services terminate at Chichester and Waterloo–Portsmouth services at Petersfield, with replacement buses towards Portsmouth Harbour and Southampton Central. Allow extra connection time for cruises and ferries. Havant works details.

Ferries and flights

Ferries: verify your booking directly with the operator before travelling during the storm. The detailed Brittany Ferries sailing board could not be fully retrieved for this check, so individual cancellation times are not reproduced here. Brittany Ferries sailing updates.

Saudi Arabia: FCDO advice remains current on 23 October, warning of further attacks and disruption at airports, including King Khalid International Airport. It advises against all but essential travel to the country outside the area within 10km of Yemen, where it advises against all travel. Check the airline for the booked flight and any onward connection; the warning does not establish cancellation of every flight. FCDO advice.

Dated snapshot: this report is not a live feed. Services, roadworks and weather impacts can change quickly. Recheck official operators and road information before departure.
