Our Friday travel update for Bexhill, St Leonards-on-Sea, Hastings, Ore, Battle and Eastbourne focuses on this weekend’s Portsmouth approach closure and significant continuing travel notices. Most items below are ongoing or planned disruption, not new incidents today.
Roads: westbound A27 closure this weekend
National Highways lists the A27 westbound from Emsworth (Warblington) to Langstone as closed from 9pm Saturday 17 October until 6am Monday 19 October. Overnight westbound closures at Langstone interchange are also listed for tonight, 16 October, from 8pm to 6am. Passengers heading towards Portsmouth or Southampton should allow for signed diversions and reconfirm journey timings. Official Langstone schedule.
Next week, National Highways lists overnight A27 closures in both directions between Southerham and Berwick roundabouts on 19–24 October, 9pm–6am. The diversion uses the A26 and A22 through Little Horsted and Polegate. Check the exact overnight schedule before early airport departures or late returns. Sussex works details.
Rail: plan ahead for half-term changes
Havant works affect journeys at different times between 24 October and 1 November. During the main closure, 26–30 October, Southern services terminate at Chichester and London Waterloo–Portsmouth Harbour services terminate at Petersfield. Replacement buses include Chichester–Portsmouth Harbour and Chichester–Southampton Central. Allow extra connection time when travelling with luggage to a cruise or ferry. Network Rail service arrangements.
Flights: Saudi advice updated; Tel Aviv connection suspension continues
FCDO updated its Saudi Arabia regional-tensions advice on 15 October. Its current warning remains against all but essential travel to Saudi airports except Medina, with British nationals advised to stay away from Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport until secure. Confirm your booking and flight status directly with the airline before leaving for Gatwick or Heathrow. This warning does not establish cancellation of every flight. Current FCDO advice.
Emirates’ notice dated 5 October continues to state that its codeshare operations with flydubai to and from Tel Aviv are suspended until further notice. Passengers connecting through Dubai should check their onward booking; this is not a blanket cancellation of UK–Dubai flights. Emirates travel notices.
Ferries: check revised bookings before travelling
Brittany Ferries’ published notice confirms the early withdrawal of direct Poole–Cherbourg services, with Barfleur redeployed from 12 October. Affected customers are offered refunds or alternative travel from Portsmouth. Recheck the departure port, route and check-in deadline on any amended booking. Operator announcement.
This is a dated snapshot, not a live travel feed or exhaustive cancellation list. Conditions can change after publication. Check your airline, rail or ferry operator and National Highways’ latest closures before setting off.
