Travellers from Bexhill, St Leonards-on-Sea, Hastings, Ore, Battle and Eastbourne should plan for the following confirmed road, rail and international travel issues.

Roads: Portsmouth approach closures this week

National Highways lists overnight westbound closures at the A27 Langstone interchange for 12–16 and 19–23 October, from 8pm to 6am. A longer westbound closure between Emsworth (Warblington) and Langstone is planned from 9pm Saturday 17 October until 6am Monday 19 October. Allow extra journey time for Portsmouth or Southampton trips using this route and follow signed diversions. Official closure notice.

On the M27, junction 4 westbound overnight closures are scheduled on Monday–Friday nights until 21 October, from 9pm to 6am. From 14–21 October the diversion uses the M3 northbound to junction 12 and returns southbound via Allbrook. Check whether your Southampton route passes this junction. M27 details.

Roads: Sussex closures coming next week

The A27 is scheduled to close in both directions between Southerham and Berwick roundabouts overnight, 9pm–6am, on the dates listed as 19–24 October. The signed diversion uses the A26 and A22 through Little Horsted and Polegate. Further overnight closures affect Offington–Grove Lodge in Worthing on 22–23 October. Check late airport returns and early departures against the latest closure list. Sussex works notice.

Trains: half-term changes towards Portsmouth and Southampton

Havant engineering works affect services between 24 October and 1 November. During the main closure, 26–30 October, Southern services terminate at Chichester and Waterloo–Portsmouth Harbour trains terminate at Petersfield. Replacement buses include Chichester–Portsmouth Harbour and Chichester–Southampton Central. Check your exact itinerary and allow for bus transfers, particularly when connecting with a cruise or ferry. Network Rail dates and replacement services.

Flights: Saudi Arabia warning and Tel Aviv connection suspension

FCDO advice, updated 13 October and current on 14 October, advises against all but essential travel to Saudi airports except Medina. Following the 10 October incident, British nationals are advised to stay away from Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport until it is secure. Confirm your booking and flight status directly with your airline before leaving for Gatwick or Heathrow; a travel warning does not establish the status of every individual flight. Official Saudi Arabia travel advice.

Emirates’ current notice, dated 5 October, confirms its codeshare flights operated by flydubai to and from Tel Aviv are suspended until further notice. This matters to passengers connecting through Dubai; it does not mean all UK–Dubai flights are cancelled. Contact the airline or travel agent about affected connections. Emirates travel updates.

Ferries: check rebooked departure ports

Brittany Ferries announced an early end to direct Poole–Cherbourg services, with Barfleur redeployed from 12 October. Affected passengers are offered refunds or alternative travel from Portsmouth. The same notice confirms an early closure of Portsmouth–Le Havre following a vessel gearbox fault. Check your revised route, departure port and check-in time before arranging transport. This is a dated travel snapshot, not a live disruption feed. Plans can change after publication. Check your airline, rail or ferry operator and National Highways’ latest closures before departure. This update is not an exhaustive list of cancellations.
