This update covers confirmed disruption relevant to journeys from Bexhill, St Leonards-on-Sea, Hastings, Ore, Battle and Eastbourne. Planned works can change at short notice.
Roads: overnight A27 closures
- Until Saturday 24 October: the A27 is scheduled to close in both directions between Southerham and Berwick from 9pm to 6am. The signed diversion uses the A26 and A22 via Little Horsted and Polegate.
- Tonight and Thursday night: the A27 Langstone Interchange westbound is scheduled to close from 8pm to 6am. This may add time to late transfers towards Portsmouth.
- Thursday 22 to Friday 23 October: the A27 is also scheduled to close in both directions between Offington Interchange and Grove Lodge, Worthing, from 9pm to 6am.
Allow extra time for overnight Portsmouth and Southampton transfers and follow signed diversions. Check National Highways live traffic information before departure.
Heathrow: M25 closure this weekend
Planned: the M25 anticlockwise carriageway at junction 15, between the M4 slip roads, is due to close from 8pm Saturday 24 October until 10am Sunday 25 October. Clockwise traffic and all links between the M25 and M4 are due to remain open. Anticlockwise traffic will be diverted west to M4 junction 5 and back, with the busiest period expected on Sunday morning between 8am and midday.
Passengers travelling to Heathrow during this period should allow substantial extra road time. See the National Highways M25 junction 15 notice.
Rail: Portsmouth and Southampton changes begin Saturday
Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October: replacement buses are planned between Havant and Southampton Central. On Sunday, buses will also run between Guildford and Petersfield.
Monday 26 to Friday 30 October: Southern trains will terminate at Chichester and South Western Railway trains from London Waterloo will terminate at Petersfield. Replacement buses will run from Chichester to Portsmouth Harbour and Southampton Central, and from Petersfield to Portsmouth Harbour.
Allow longer connections and check the operator journey planner before relying on a train connection. Full details are on the Network Rail Havant works page.
Flights and international travel
No airport-wide cancellation affecting all Gatwick or Heathrow flights was confirmed in the official sources checked for this update. Individual flights can still change, so check the airline’s live flight status before setting out.
The FCDO advice for Saudi Arabia remains current: it advises against all travel within 10km of the Yemen border and against all but essential travel to the rest of Saudi Arabia. It also warns of likely airport disruption and cancellations during regional tensions. This is a travel warning, not confirmation that every flight is cancelled. Read the latest FCDO Saudi Arabia advice and contact the airline for the booked flight.
Ports and ferries
Portsmouth International Port says EU Entry/Exit System checks take place at destination ports, with no new EES system or checks at Portsmouth itself. Ferry passengers should nevertheless follow their operator’s check-in time and verify the sailing before travel. See Portsmouth International Port.
Please note: this is a dated snapshot, not a live travel feed. Check National Highways, your train operator, airline, airport, cruise line or ferry operator again before departure.
