Sunday’s travel update for Bexhill, St Leonards-on-Sea, Hastings, Ore, Battle and Eastbourne highlights engineering changes affecting airport journeys today and roadworks to plan around.

Rail today: no Gatwick Express; Victoria services diverted

No Gatwick Express trains run today, Sunday 18 October. National Rail confirms Southern services do not run to or from London Victoria today; usual Victoria services are diverted towards London Bridge on an amended, reduced timetable. Gatwick Express tickets are accepted on Southern and Thameslink between London Bridge and Gatwick Airport at no extra cost. Check your exact journey before departure: this is not a closure of every rail route serving Gatwick. Official timetable changes and ticket acceptance.

Heathrow also confirms no Piccadilly line Underground service to or from the airport today, due to planned engineering works. Normal Piccadilly service is expected on Monday 19 October. Check the timetable of your chosen alternative before travelling. Heathrow passenger update.

Roads: Portsmouth closure through today; Heathrow-area morning works

National Highways’ published schedule closes the A27 westbound from Emsworth (Warblington) to Langstone from 9pm on 17 October until 6am Monday 19 October. Allow for signed diversions when heading towards Portsmouth or Southampton. This is the scheduled closure window, not independent confirmation of conditions at every junction. Langstone works notice.

The M25 junction 15 anticlockwise carriageway between the M4 slip roads is scheduled to remain closed until 10am today. Clockwise traffic and all M25/M4 links remain open under the works plan. Check the latest position before travelling; the planned reopening time is not a guarantee that the road has reopened. M25 details.

From tomorrow, the A27 Southerham–Berwick section is listed for overnight closures in both directions on 19–24 October, 9pm–6am, with diversion via the A26 and A22. Factor this into late returns and early airport departures. Sussex closure schedule.

Flights: Saudi advice remains widened

FCDO’s Saudi Arabia page, updated 17 October and current today, continues to advise against all travel within 10km of Yemen’s border and against all but essential travel to the rest of Saudi Arabia. The earlier Medina exception no longer applies. Check your airline booking and insurance before travelling; the advice itself does not confirm whether a particular flight is cancelled. Current FCDO advice.

Seaport passengers: protect your check-in time

If travelling to a Southampton cruise terminal or Portsmouth ferry, allow for the roadworks above and reconfirm your operator’s terminal, check-in deadline and sailing status before setting off. Road access disruption does not itself mean a sailing is cancelled.

This is a dated snapshot, not a live travel feed or complete cancellation list. Conditions can change after publication. Check your transport operator and latest road closure information before departure.
